PHILADELPHIA – This weekend, the La Salle University baseball team will host Hofstra for its 2020 home-opening series at Hank DeVincent Field. It'll start with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 10:20 a.m., while Sunday's noon finale will be streamed on ESPN+.

ROOKIES RECOGNIZED WITH WEEKLY HONORS
- Freshmen Gabe Rappa and David Smith began their La Salle careers in style, earning weekly recognition for the performance at Furman.
- Rappa was named Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week after earning the win on the mound in Saturday's victory over Furman. The lefty allowed just one earned run and five hits to go with five strikeouts in his debut.
- Smith was honored as the Philadelphia Baseball Review Player of the Week after recording a hit, and RBI and a run in each of his first three games. The infielder hit .455 over the weekend at Furman with four RBI, four runs and two stolen bases.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Explorers went 1-2 in their first series of the season, taking game two, 5-4, while dropping a pair of narrow decisions in games one (7-5) and three (6-5).
- In the win on Saturday, Rappa and fellow freshman Jordan Morales held Furman to four runs, with three of those coming as unearned. Rappa got the win and Morales earned a save in his debut, while Smith went 3-for-4 at the plate.
- Redshirt freshman Bubba Weigel hit a solo home run in his first at-bat in game one. In game three, sophomore Manny Corporan struck out seven while scattering only three hits. For the series, sophomore Ross Mulhall hit .417 and freshman Elijah Dickerson hit .385.
SCOUTING HOFSTRA
- This will be the first meeting between La Salle and Hofstra since 1995.
- The Pride went 1-3 in their first series against Purdue at a neutral site down in Florida. They won the second game, 13-6, while dropping the other three contests, 9-6, 10-4, and 10-9.
- Anthony D'Onofrio was red-hot, going 11-for-16 with six RBI in the series. Austin Gauthier was equally as impressive, going 9-for-15 with eight runs. As a team, Hofstra hit .333 and slugged .486.
- On the mound, game one projected starter Jack Jett allowed four unearned runs on six hits over 4.2 innings in his first start. Steven Boscia (2.08 ERA) and Ryan Rue (3.00 ERA) round out the Hofstra rotation.
