Corporan Shines as Baseball Completes Series Sweep of Hofstra with Sunday Shutout

PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore right-hander Manny Corporan and freshman lefty Jordan Morales combined for a four-hit shutout as the La Salle University baseball team swept its three-game series against Hofstra with a 2-0 home win on Sunday. It was La Salle's first three-game series sweep since 2013 when the Explorers swept Massachusetts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Corporan controlled the tempo early, giving up just one hit over the first three innings.
  • La Salle got some offense in the bottom of the third when sophomore Tatem Levins drove a deep sacrifice fly to right field to score junior Alfonse Sadallah for the game's first run.
  • The next inning, sophomore Ross Mulhall extended the La Salle lead with a solo home run to left field, making it 2-0 in favor of the home team.
  • That was all Corporan needed as he got out of a jam in the sixth with an inning-ending double play and then struck out a pair in the seventh before handing the ball off to Morales.
  • Morales had little trouble over the final two innings, striking out two en route to his second save of the season.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Corporan (W, 1-1) finished his outing with only three hits allowed over seven scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
  • Sadallah drew a walk in all three of his plate appearances, while Mulhall and freshmen David Smith, Connor Coolahan and Dylan Maria each registered a hit.
UP NEXT
  • The Explorers will head to North Carolina next for three round robin games against Wake Forest, Sacred Heart and Brown. La Salle will play Wake Forest first on Friday at 4 p.m.
