Men's Basketball Falls in Road Contest at Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The La Salle University men's basketball team dropped a road contest to Atlantic 10 foe Davidson Tuesday night, 74-49.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams got off to a slow start offensively, but early turnovers proved costly for the Explorers as they found themselves trailing by 10 shortly after the first media timeout.
  • A layup by sophomore Ed Croswell brought the Explorers within nine, 16-7, midway through the first half, however, Davidson made its next three shots to extend the lead.
  • La Salle got some life late in the first from redshirt junior Scott Spencer, who hit a three-pointer and drew a foul for a four-point play with 16 seconds left. But again, the Wildcats had a response as Luka Brajkovic made a short-range jumper just before the horn to give Davidson a 39-23 halftime lead.
  • The Explorers couldn't get the offense going to start the second half either and the home Wildcats took advantage, getting to the foul line often and making 20-of-26 free throws in the second period to close out the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Davidson jumped out to the early lead behind 51.7 percent shooting in the first half, including 55.6 percent from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, La Salle wasn't able to get it going from downtown, shooting only 12.5 percent from three for the game.
  • Croswell led the Explorers with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting, while junior David Beatty scored 10 points and sophomore Jared Kimbrough added nine. Davidson's Kellan Grady led all scorers with 22 points.
UP NEXT
  • The Explorers will return home on Saturday for Senior Day against St. Bonaventure. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. following the Senior Day ceremony.
