Eight-Goal Second Half Powers Women's Lacrosse Past Radford in Home Opener

PHILADELPHIA – In its home opener Saturday afternoon, women's lacrosse picked up a second win of the season, defeating Radford 12-5. La Salle controlled the game throughout, pulling away in the second half with eight goals. Junior Annina Iacobucci led the way with a hattrick, joining three other Explorers with multi-goal games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was truly a game of runs for the Blue & Gold. After falling behind 2-1 after eight minutes had transpired, the home side would never trail again. A brace from Iacobucci and a strike from classmate Emily Johnston had the Explorers on a three-goal spurt to finish the half.
  • The Highlanders would score to open the second, but La Salle answered with four straight to push its advantage to 8-3. That deficit returned to four, which was answered with goals from senior Mikki Raymond and junior Allison Hunter. Radford couldn't recover and only tallied once more within the remaining 12 minutes.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • La Salle outscored Radford 8-3 in the second half, which highlighted a dominant second half. The truth is the hosts were peppering the goal all day with 17 shots in the first half (16 on frame) and 19 shots in the second (16 on frame). 32 shots on goal, 36 shots total. The Highlanders finished with 10 shots on goal, 17 shots total.
  • The Explorers also won the battle of ground balls (19 to 13), draw controls (12 to seven) and turnovers (nine to 15). The nine turnovers were their lowest amount since last season's home opener vs. LIU Brooklyn.
  • Multi-goal games: Iacobucci (three), Johnston (two), Raymond (two) and Hunter (two) combined for nine of La Salle's 12 goals.
  • Freshman Madi McKee also had multiple points with a goal and an assist.
  • Johnston was everywhere for La Salle: tied for the game high with three points (two goals, one assist) and led all players in draw controls (six) and ground balls (five).
  • Junior Bridget Ruskey turned provider on Saturday, assisting three times and adding two draw controls.
  • On the defensive end, junior Jordan Campbell paced all players with two caused turnovers. Classmate Molly Loughlin finished with five saves on 10 shots faced.
