Women's Water Polo Takes on Convergence Cup This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – Women's water polo is set for the Convergence Cup this weekend with games Friday against Chapman at 2:15 p.m. (11:15 a.m. PST) and #12 Loyola Marymount at 6 p.m. (3 p.m. PST). The following day features Occidental at 1:15 p.m. (10:15 a.m. PST) and Fresno Pacific at 5 p.m. (2 p.m. PST). Chapman and Occidental games will take place at Las Flores Park, while Loyola Marymount and Fresno State will be in Axelrood Pool.
 
ABOUT THE EXPLORERS
  • La Salle returns to action after almost two weeks between games, last playing Wagner and Brown at the Marist Invite. The Explorers hold a 5-9 overall record this season.
  • Junior Sarah DeFusco leads the team in goals (46), points (60) and steals (18). Classmate Jillian DeLisle is the team's top provider with 41 assists.
  • DeFusco is followed on the scoresheet by junior Madison Martinez with 26 scores. Freshman Shanna Zuanich and sophomore Madelyn Koerper are third on the team with 12 goals.
  • Koerper and Zuanich are one-two in exclusions earned with 23 and 16 respectively.
  • Freshman Caitlin Valentine has received the most time in net this season, tallying 77 saves.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
  • Chapman is looking for its first win of the season, having started the campaign 0-8.
  • The Panthers have two players with 20+ points in 2020. Junior Audrey Hattori paces the squad with 14 goals and 11 assists, trailed by freshman Camille Chiang on 20 points.
  • Junior Ally Long has scored 10 and assisted nine after in her first season with the Panthers after transferring from Wagner.
  • In the only all-time meeting between the two sides, Chapman won 15-11 last season.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
  • The #12 team in the nation holds an 8-6 record this year, coming off wins over previous #12 Long Beach State and #13 San Jose State.
  • A familiar name will be junior Kelsey Snelgar who transferred to the Lions from St. Francis Brooklyn. She led the MAAC last season with 121 goals en route to bring named All-Conference First Team. This year she has won two GCC Player of the Week honors, most recently for scoring 11 goals last weekend.
  • This is the first ever matchup between the teams.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
  • Occidental has only played two official games this season, defeating Caltech and falling to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
  • In the win over Caltech, four Tigers finished with hattricks: seniors Lori Berberian and Monica Chernoff, sophomore Michela Imperiale and freshman Olivia Montgomery.
  • In net, junior Mika O'Shea has played both games, tallying 11 saves.
SCOUTING THE SUNBIRDS
  • Fresno Pacific has began 1-14 with its only win coming against Austin last game out.
  • In that victory, senior Sam Witt and sophomore Amy Zaninovich each recorded a hattrick. 
  • In the only matchup between the two sides last year, La Salle emerged victorious, 14-13.
