OLEAN, N.Y. – The La Salle women's basketball team (5-7, 1-4 A-10) fell behind early and couldn't overcome the deficit to St. Bonaventure (2-6, 1-4 A-10) as it lost, 65-60.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- St. Bonaventure owned the first frame, 22-8, which is La Salle's slowest start to a game this season.
- The Explorers began the comeback effort in the second period with an 11-4 spurt over the first 5:34. The squads exchanged the next 16 points for eight apiece heading into the half. Seven Explorers recorded a point through the second period with four accounting for at least five apiece, led by junior Kayla Spruill with six.
- The third quarter started just like the second ended – both teams scoring eight points apiece. The Blue & Gold chipped the deficit to just three points by the end of the third after it outscored SBU 9-3. La Salle's scoring came on a 9-0 spurt over the final 3:18.
- St. Bonaventure rallied in the final stanza to pull ahead, 58-49, after a 7-0 run late in the fourth, which forced a La Salle timeout with 2:37 left. The Explorers took a 7-2 run to pull the game within four at 60-56, but the Bonnies stayed firm to seal the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Spruill led all scorers with 16 points in her return after missing the last five games. She connected on 4-of-5 from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 from the line.
- Sophomore Claire Jacobs ended with 11 points and a game high nine rebounds.
- Senior Deja King added nine points, while sophomore Amy Jacobs and junior Molly Masciantonio registered seven apiece.
- Senior Kate Hill finished with five points, five assists, and four rebounds.
- Collectively, La Salle shot 36.0% from the floor, 25.9% from deep, and 89.5% from the line.
- La Salle won the turnover battle 19-14, with 19 points off TOs.
- St. Bonaventure took the battle on the glass, 37-25.
