PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's basketball team (3-6, 0-3 A-10, 0-2 Big 5) couldn't sustain an offensive effort Friday afternoon at Hagan Arena as it fell to Saint Joseph's (3-0, 1-0 A-10, 1-0 Big 5), 65-36. The Hawks outshot the Explorers, 36.2% to 20.7% en route to the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hawks opened the game with a trey to take an early 3-0 lead before the Explorers claimed a 6-1 run over a 3:07 span to go up 6-4. SJU answered with a 6-0 spurt heading into the media stoppage at 4:33 to lead 10-6. Saint Joseph's extended its lead after they outscored the La Salle, 7-4 through the remainder of the period for a 17-11 lead.
- La Salle scored the first basket of the second stanza at the 5:44 mark after both teams went scoreless up until that point. Saint Joseph's expanded its margin with a 14-4 advantage through the remainder of the period, including an 8-0 run over the final 3:50. The Hawks outshot the Blue & Gold 35.7% to 20.0% from the floor, including 50% (3-of-6) from deep to 0.0% (0-of-7).
- The Explorers tallied the first four points of the third frame before the home team shot off a 10-0 run over 2:50 heading into the media break at 4:32. SJU added to its lead over the remainder of the frame with a 10-8 margin over the Explorers.
- Saint Joseph's expanded La Salle's deficit in the final quarter with a 14-7 differential.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Sophomore Claire Jacobs led the team with 13 points and six rebounds.
- Rookie Michelle Kozicki dropped a career high six points and added five rebounds.
- Freshman Morgan Adams recorded a career best three blocks.
- La Salle shot 20.3% (12-of-59) from the field, 5.3% (1-of-19) from deep, and 31.3% (11-of-27) from the line.
- The Hawks claimed the rebounding margin 55-40.
GAME NOTES:
- Kozicki made her first career start.
