Field Hockey Powers Past Davidson, 4-2

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The La Salle field hockey team (6-7, 3-2 A-10) picked up their third conference win of 2021 with a 4-2 win over Davidson on Friday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Freshman Laura McCann won possession of the ball at midfield and played a perfect ball up to teammate Tatum Johnson, who slid a shot past Wildcat keeper Cato Roell to give La Salle an early 1-0 lead.
  • With just 1:38 remaining in the opening half, Davidson tied the game on a blast right in front of the cage to level the score at 1-1.
  • The teams would enter the half tied, with La Salle holding the edge in shots, 6-3.
  • Paige Doyle put the Explorers back in the lead 3:20 into the third quarter, scoring on feeds from Grace Ferriolo and Johnson to give La Salle a 2-1 lead.
  • Davidson answered 3:05 later, as Dav Moody finished off a rebound to tie the game at 2-2.
  • In the fourth, Johnson scored on a feed from Doyle at the 49:43 mark to regain the lead for the Explorers, 3-2.
  • Doyle struck for the second time in the game under two minutes later, doubling the Explorer lead to 4-2 where it would remain.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The two goals for Johnson puts the sophomore in the team lead with nine. Johnson leads the team with 25 points overall.
  • Making her first start of the season, Doyle recorded her first five points of 2021 with a pair of goals along with an assist.
  • Sophomore keeper Ryan Curley (6-7) recorded a save in her sixth win of the season.
  • La Salle held the edge in shots (13-8), shots on goal (9-3), and penalty corners (11-5) in the win.
 
NEXT UP:
La Salle will continue their North Carolina road trip on Sunday, Oct. 17 when they head to Boone, N.C. to take on Appalachian State.
