Field Hockey Falls on Road to No. 20 UMass

AMHERST, MASS. - No. 20 University of Massachusets defended their home turf on Friday afternoon, beating La Salle field hockey (6-9, 3-3 A-10) 7-1. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Minutewomen got off to a fast start on Friday, scoring 1:02 into the game to take an early 1-0 lead. 
  • Claire Danahy doubled the lead for UMass at the 5:45 mark, scoring her second goal of the season to make the score 2-0. 
  • Mus Defauwes and Bella Ianni added goals late in the second quarter to make the score 4-0 at the end of the first half. 
  • The Minutewomen kept their offensive momentum in the third quarter, scoring twice in the opening five minutes of the frame to extend their lead to 6-0. 
  • After UMass added their seventh goal of the contest, freshman Quinn Medico got La Salle on the board with her second goal of the season to make the score 7-1. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Minutewomen held the edge in shots, 22-6 and shots on goal, 17-5. 
  • Ryan Curley (6-9) made 10 saves in cage for the Explorers. 
  • Freshman Sofia Pla led the team with two shots on goal. 
  • UMass held the edge in penalty corners, 11-4.
