Women’s Soccer Wins in Double Overtime Against UMass

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – A second-half push forced the La Salle women's soccer team into double overtime against the UMass Minutewomen on Sunday afternoon. Kelli McGroarty scored the game-winning goal in the 107th minute to hand the Explorers the 2-1 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • La Salle saw its first scoring opportunity in the 22nd minute when Shea Collins brought the ball down the sideline and crossed it into Molly O'Brien in traffic. The ball found the foot of McGroarty who took a sliding shot at the net, fallen on by the UMass goalkeeper.
  • The Explorers took the advantage in the 52nd minute when Camaren Cox brought the ball up the left side and crossed it to Haley Gschrey who found the far-left side of the net for the goal to give La Salle the lead, 1-0.
  • A corner in the 87th minute led to a shot from the Minutewomen's Olivia Gouldsbury inside to Macy Graves who got a head on it for the goal to tie the game, 1-1.
  • Mary Kate Vinkler chased the ball into the deep right corner in the 101st minute saving it from going over the line with enough time to dump it to Gschrey right in front of the net. Gschrey got a rushed shot off from the ground sending the ball just wide of the goal.
  • Cox set up the golden goal in the 107st minute sending the ball to McGroarty who booted it into the right side of the net to end the game.
