Men's Basketball Defeats UAlbany 67-64 in Homecoming Clash

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's basketball team opened up the win column on Saturday afternoon, defeating UAlbany 67-64 inside Tom Gola Arena on Homecoming Weekend.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After trading buckets, the Explorers used an 8-0 spurt over 3:01 to take an early 14-7 lead.
  • The hot shooting continued for La Salle, extending the run to a 15-3 advantage behind an early six points from Clifton Moore. The Explorers used eight turnovers to help fuel their double-digit lead.
  • A pair of three-point plays from the Great Danes cut the deficit back to single digits, but almost immediately after Khalil Brantley checked in for the first time, the freshman scored six straight for La Salle to put the hosts up 27-15.
  • Brantley turned provider to find Christian Ray for an easy layup to take a 16 point lead, tied for the largest of the opening half.
  • La Salle took a 36-23 advantage into the break, limiting the Great Danes to 8-22 (36.4%) from the field.
  • UAlbany chipped away at the deficit early in the half, closing the gap to as little as five points in the opening seven minutes of the final frame.
  • After a clever move and finish at the rim from Jhamir Brickus pushed the advantage back to seven, four Great Danes converged on the sophomore on the next possession as he kicked out to a wide open Sherif Kenney, who reestablished a 10 point lead.
  • UAlbany kept attacking, the lead trimming to as little as three points at the end. After struggling from the charity stripe in the opener, the Explorers used a 13-16 (81.3%) performance to help keep the Great Danes at bay.
 
GAME NOTES
  • UAlbany's De'Vondre Perry led all scorers with 18 points. Ray paced the Explorers with 12 points.
  • Ray and Kenney both finished with a team-high six rebounds, Kenney adding a team-best five assists.
  • The two teams combined for 49 turnovers, UAlbany with 26 compared to the Explorers' 23.
  • La Salle assisted on 16 of 23 baskets, good for a 69.6% clip.
  • The Explorers led for 36:14 of the game, UAlbany holding a lead for just 47 seconds.
  • La Salle forced nine offensive fouls on the afternoon.
