PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle University men's soccer team will play its final non-conference game of the season when the Explorers visit Drexel on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. contest.
FIRST A-10 WIN IN THE BOOKS
- The Explorers picked up their first Atlantic 10 Conference win of the season on Sunday, blanking rival Saint Joseph's 2-0.
- Junior Ike Hollinger scored the first goal of the game in the third minute as the Explorers held a 1-0 lead at halftime.
- Fellow junior Omari Cotterell then iced the game with his third goal of the season on assists from Hollinger and freshman Justin Brunow in the 53rd minute.
- Goalkeeper Brett Werner needed to make only one save to secure his third career shutout, while the Explorers held a 14-7 shot advantage.
A HOT START
- With the win, La Salle improved to 4-1-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in the A-10.
- It's the best start for the Explorers since 2016 when they began 5-1 over their first six games. That season, La Salle finished 10-8-1 and earned a berth to the Atlantic 10 Championship.
- This season, the Explorers have pressured their opponents, averaging 4.5 more shots per game than their counterparts.
- La Salle is averaging 2.17 goals per game while only surrendering 1.17 per contest. Eight different Explorers have scored a goal through the first six games.
SCOUTING DREXEL
- This will be La Salle's second meeting with Drexel this season after taking down the Dragons 3-1 at McCarthy Stadium earlier this month.
- Drexel is 2-3-1 overall and 1-0-0 at home with a win over Saint Joseph's.
- The Dragons took a 2-2 draw at Delaware the last time out on Sunday.
- Laolu Daranijo (4 goal, 1 assist) and Chris Donovan (3 goals, 3 assists) lead the Drexel offense, while Stephen Kopsachilis owns a 1.67 goals against average in net.
