Softball Falls at Drexel

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle softball team (0-9) fell to Drexel (9-1) in a pair of games on Saturday, 12-2 and 9-1 in five innings in each game.
 
DREXEL 12, LA SALLE 2 – F/5 INNINGS
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Drexel scored five in the first and three in the second to take an 8-0 lead before the Blue & Gold scored.
  • In the third, La Salle tallied two runs as sophomore Maddy Little scored classmate Lauren Begg with a single. Next up was sophomore Casey Walker who sent a double down the right field line to plate Little from first.
  • The Dragons claimed three more in the bottom of the third and one in the fourth to seal the run rule.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Little finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run.
  • Walker was 1-for-3 with the RBI double.
  • Four other Explorers registered a base knock.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
  • Junior Sarah Dowalo (0-5) took the loss after allowing 11 earned on nine hits and six walks.

DREXEL 9, LA SALLE 1 – F/5 INNINGS
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Drexel jumped out to a 6-0 lead after scoring four in the first and two in the second.
  • La Salle scored a run in the fourth when sophomore Mia Recenello doubled to right center to bring senior Ashley Mendenhall in from first.
  • The Dragons added two in the fourth and one in the fifth to enact the run rule.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Recenello finished the game 2-for-2 with the RBI double.
  • Walker, junior Natalie Rios, and rookie Alyssa Fagans each had one hit.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
  • Sophomore Regan Ware (0-4) tossed 4.1 innings and allowed nine earned on 11 hits and five walks.
UP NEXT:
  • La Salle heads to Fordham for a pair of doubleheaders starting Friday.
