Heersma Nets First Goal of Career in Field Hockey's Matchup with Villanova

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. - Freshman Nanouk Heersma found the back of the cage for the first time as an Explorer in a 4-1 loss for the La Salle field hockey team at Villanova on Monday. The game was the penultimate non-conference game of the season for the Explorers, who are scheduled to continue their season against Saint Joseph's on April 3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Less than a minute into the match, the Wildcats took a lead they would not relinquish when Riley Dolan scored at the 58-second mark.
  • The start of the second quarter was similarly disappointing for La Salle, as Villanova took just 41 seconds to double its lead.
  • Meghan Mitchell notched her eighth goal of the year to put the score at 2-0, which held through the end of the first half.
  • The Wildcats earned a penalty stroke an even minute into the third quarter and converted to put the score at 3-0, before the Explorers got one back a few minutes later.
  • Heersma received a penalty corner insert from Tatum Johnson and blasted it past the VU goalkeeper to cut the margin to 3-1.
  • Villanova was able to get momentum back at the close of the third with a tally that pushed the advantage back to three at 4-1.
  • Both teams were held scoreless for the duration of the fourth quarter, with sophomore Samie Hackman recorded the lone shot by either side.
