Field Hockey Succumbs to Drexel in Season Opener

PHILADELPHIA - A pair of second-half goals by Drexel broke a scoreless tie at intermission and handed the La Salle University field hockey team a season-opening 2-0 loss at Buckley Field on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Shots were even through the first 30 minutes of action, as was the score as neither team could find the back of the cage.
  • A penalty corner in the second minute of the contest resulted in the first shot for the Explorers, but junior Tori Wright saw her shot go wide.
  • In the second quarter, another penalty corner led to a second shot by Wright but Drexel goalie Megan Hadfield was there to make the stop.
  • The score remained deadlocked through the first 42 minutes of action, before a breakaway chance by the Dragons gave the home team a lead. Eline Di Leva was the goal scorer for Drexel.
  • La Salle had a chance to knot the game with less than five minutes remaining, but freshman Tatum Johnson was denied by Hadfield. The Dragons tacked on an insurance goal late to account for the final margin.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Drexel narrowly had the advantage in shots, 6-5, while La Salle held a 3-2 edge in penalty corners.
  • Redshirt junior Cassie Kincaid had a pair of saves in goal for the Explorers.
UP NEXT
  • La Salle continues its two-game road trip to start the season on Sunday, March 7 at Monmouth. First draw is set for 11:00 a.m.
