Temple Downs Field Hockey in Final Non-Conference Game of Season

PHILADELPHIA - Temple broke open a close 1-0 game at intermission with three second-half goals to defeat the La Salle University field hockey team, 4-0, on Thursday afternoon. The contest was the final non-conference game of the year for the Explorers, who round out the 2021 spring season on Saturday at Lock Haven.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Veronika Novakova opened the scoring in the 10th minute of the contest, tallying her team-leading fourth goal of the season as a direct result of a penalty corner.
  • Much of the second quarter was controlled by La Salle, who worked a pair of penalty corners and had two shots.
  • In the 21st minute, freshman Cat McFadden had her attempt denied by Cristina Carotenuto as the Owls maintained a one-goal lead heading into halftime.
  • Just a minute into the second half, Kerrie Lorenz scored off another penalty corner. She would later assist on Temple's third goal of the game in the 34th minute.
  • The Explorers had a pair of shots on goal in the fourth quarter, one by freshman Nanouk Heersma and the other by classmate Tatum Johnson, but Temple's Molly Frey was up to the task.
  • Redshirt junior Cassie Kincaid had five saves in the loss for La Salle.
