#24 Women's Water Polo Hosts #23 Iona, Siena in Final Home Games of the Season

PHILADELPHIA – #24 Women's water polo hosts #23 Iona and Siena for its final two home games of the season on Sunday. The Explorers take on the Gaels at 11 a.m., followed by the Saints at 4 p.m. A Senior Day ceremony will proceed the second game. Both games will be streamed on the La Salle Athletics YouTube page.
 
ABOUT THE EXPLORERS
  • The Blue & Gold is 7-3 this campaign with a 2-1 mark in MAAC play. The Explorers have won five of their last six games.
  • Senior Sarah DeFusco is coming off winning MAAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring six and assisting two in the win vs. Villanova. She also chipped in with four steals.
  • The two other seniors had big parts to play against the Wildcats. Madison Martinez scored four, assisted three, tallied four steals and two exclusions earned. Karle Linden finished with three assists and two blocks.
  • Sophomores Sophie Appler and Shanna Zuanich continued their impressive second campigns against the city rivals. Appler did it all with five goals, three assists and four steals. Zuanich netted a hattrick and provided a game-high five assists.
SCOUTING THE GAELS
  • Iona started its season almost a month after the Explorers and has since won the two games it has played, defeating VMI and Siena.
  • La Salle has yet to defeat Iona, going 0-6 to date.
  • The Gaels' leading scorers are both tied with six goals: junior Maeve Wydan and senior Laura Rockett. Wydan has added two assists and leads all players with eight points.
  • In net, junior Cristina Chiappini has earned the majority of minutes, tallying 13 saves on 30 shots.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
  • Siena began its season towards the end of March and has played three games. It has fallen to LIU, VMI and Iona.
  • The Explorers are on a two-game winning streak against the Saints, dating back to 2019.
  • Georgia Vargas leads the team's goal scoring efforts with eight so far, while Sophia Torres is the top provider with 12 assists.
  • Anna Mossakowski has received all the reps in net, tallying 20 saves on 62 shots.
