PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle University men's soccer team will look to get back in the win column on Saturday when the Explorers visit Rhode Island for a 4 p.m. Atlantic 10 contest.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Explorers dropped their first league game of the season to Fordham on Senior Day Tuesday night, 2-0.
- Fordham took the lead midway through the first half with a 27th minute goal and then took all the momentum out of halftime with a quick goal to start the second half.
- La Salle lost despite holding a 16-6 shot advantage, including an 8-3 edge in shots on target. The Explorers have outshot their opponents in all but one game this season and have never once been at a disadvantage in shots on goal through eight games.
- Juniors Nigel Buckley and Ike Hollinger both took four shots each, while sophomore Franc Gamiz Quer and freshman Scott Beeks each registered two shots on goal apiece.
THE ATLANTIC 10 RACE
- The Atlantic 10 Championship will be condensed down to just a four-team tournament this season.
- The league is broken down into three divisions – Central, North and West.
- La Salle is in the North Division with UMass, Fordham, Rhode Island and Saint Joseph's.
- Currently, the Explorers are just behind Fordham (2-0-1) and UMass (2-1-1) in the division, with a draw against the Minutemen and the defeat to the Rams. Fordham hosts UMass on Saturday.
SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND
- The Rams currently sit at 1-3-1 overall, 0-2-1 in the conference and 0-1-0 at home.
- The two teams were supposed to play at McCarthy Stadium on March 13, but the game was canceled due to COVID issues with Rhode Island.
- Rhode Island dropped its home opener to Saint Joseph's on Wednesday, 2-1.
- Hugo Guerra leads the team with two goals, while goalkeeper Andrew Kempe has a 2.49 goals against average and a .536 save percentage.
