BROOKLYN, N.Y. – #23 Women's water polo narrowly fell to #24 LIU on Saturday, 12-11. Senior
Madison Martinez led the Explorers with four goals and two assists, followed by sophomore
Shanna Zuanich with a hattrick and three assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Explorers started the game with the slight edge, leading 3-2 after the first quarter. The Sharks bit back in the second, outscoring the Blue & Gold 5-2 and taking a two point advantage into halftime.
- The third quarter was the same result for La Salle as the first with a 3-2 edge, closing the gap to 9-8.
- The teams split the final quarter 3-3 as LIU earned the narrow win, and effectively the MAAC regular season title.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Martinez and Zuanich paced the team with six points, followed by sophomore Sophie Appler with two goals and an assist. Senior Sarah DeFusco was the other goal scorer, tallying twice.
- Sophomore Emma Gurasich recorded a busy evening in net, finishing with 12 saves on 24 shots and two assists.
