Senior Day Win! Lacrosse Concludes Season with Victory over Duquesne

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle lacrosse concluded its 2021 season with a 20-14 win over Duquesne on Senior Day. Seniors and graduate students accounted for 16 of the 20 goals, led by Bridget Ruskey with six and Annina Iacobucci with four.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Duquesne struck the opening blow, parried by goals from Iacobucci and sophomore Madi McKee to make it 2-1 to La Salle. The away side answered back by scoring five of the next seven and claiming a 6-4 advantage.
  • At almost the halfway mark of the first, graduate student Gabby Burton found the back of the net to begin a home-side swing. La Salle controlled the remainder of the half via a 7-2 run, heading into the intermission with an 11-8 lead.
  • Duquesne began brighter in the second half, tallying two of the opening three goals to come within one. The Explorers scored twice to go back up three, the Dukes responded with two of their own to close the gap to one.
  • Graduate student Mikki Raymond kickstarted the next pivotal run, scoring with 14:18 remaining as the Blue & Gold went on to claim six of the final seven goals.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • In addition to Ruskey and Iacobucci's scoring input, senior Emily Johnston finished with a hattrick, Raymond tallied twice and Burton once for the graduating class.
  • Johnston had a knack for finishing late in this game. She recorded the final goals of each half: with 1:46 remaining in the first and with one second remaining in the second.
  • La Salle's number one also paced the team in ground balls, followed by graduate student Emily Talluto with three. Both led the team with two caused turnovers each.
  • Ruskey finished with the team high in draw controls, tallying five, followed by Johnston and McKee with four.
  • McKee was among the other goal scorers, along with freshman Maddie Henderson (twice) and Kira Sides.
  • The Explorers held a slight edge in most categories, but notably were much more efficient on the free position. La Salle finished 9-13, while Duquesne went 2-10.
  • In net, senior Molly Loughlin picked up the win to finish her career, recording 11 saves on 25 shots.
