#25 Women's Water Polo Hosts Villanova This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – #25 Women's water polo looks to bounce back this weekend as it hosts RV Villanova Saturday at 1 p.m. That game will be streamed on the La Salle Athletics YouTube channel.
 
The Marist game, which was set to be played on Sunday, April 11th, has been postponed with a makeup date to be announced at a later time.
 
ABOUT THE EXPLORERS
  • After a long winning stretch, the Blue & Gold fell to LIU last weekend.  La Salle stands at 6-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
  • Junior Madelyn Koerper scored four goals against the Sharks and now holds the team lead in goals (28) and exclusions earned (18).
  • Senior Sarah DeFusco follows her with 27 goals. La Salle's number eight is the top provider with 17 assists and leads the team in total points (44) and steals (19).
  • Sophomore Sophie Appler put in a strong performance last game, tallying four goals and four steals. That brings her total to 17 goals this season, while she has tallied 15 steals – tied for second most on the team. 
  • In net, sophomore Emma Gurasich finished with eight saves against LIU, bringing her season total to 54 with a .495 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
  • Villanova's last outing was also a four-goal defeat to LIU, putting its record at 5-3 this campaign and 1-1 in MAAC play.
  • The Explorers won the last matchup earlier this season, which was a 14-8 exhibition win. In competitive play, La Salle rides a two-game winning streak, both of which came in 2019.
  • In their game against the Sharks, the Wildcats received notable goal production from freshman attacker Sydney Bianchi and junior utility Isabel Herbst. Bianchi tallied six goals, while Herbst recorded four.
  • Sophomore utility Emily Morrissey made her second straight start in goal due to team injuries, finishing with seven saves.
