PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle softball team (0-26, 0-19 A-10) dropped a doubleheader on Hawk Hill on Saturday against Saint Joseph's (22-17, 15-2 A-10), 10-2 in six innings and 5-3.
SAINT JOSEPH'S 10, LA SALLE 2 – SIX INNINGS
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- SJU tallied two in the first inning to go up 2-0.
- The Hawks added three more in the second and one in the third for a 6-0 lead before La Salle touched home.
- Senior Ashley Mendenhall reached on an error which allowed sophomore Victoria Zatko in. Junior Natalie Rios was up next and ripped an RBI double to right center to plate junior Kaylee Piven.
- Saint Joseph's scored one in the fifth and another three in the sixth to enact the run rule.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Seven different Explorers recorded a hit, with sophomore Mia Recenello leading the group with a 2-for-3 outing.
- Mendenhall and Rios each had a hit and an RBI.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
- Junior Sarah Dowalo (0-15) tossed 5.2 innings and allowed six earned runs on 12 hits and two walks.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hawks jumped ahead in the second with a run.
- La Salle took the lead with a three-run third inning. Sophomore Casey Walker reached on an error as Rios came in. Next batter was Zatko and she launched a two-run homer to left field.
- SJU tied the game in the fourth and took the lead in the fourth with another run.
- In the sixth, the Hawks scored an insurance run to go up 5-3.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Zatko finished the game 1-for-3 with the two-run dinger.
- Rookie Tessa Dodson, Rios, and Mendenhall tallied the other three hits for the Blue & Gold.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
- Sophomore Regan Ware (0-10) threw six innings and allowed four earned runs on nine hits and two walks.
