Softball Falls in Narrow Defeat to Saint Joseph’s

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle softball team (0-27, 0-20 A-10) narrowly fell to Saint Joseph's (23-17, 16-2 A-10) on Sunday, 5-4, on Hawk Hill.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • SJU pulled ahead in the second inning off a two-run homer.
  • La Salle knotted things at two apiece in the third after sophomore Casey Walker reached on an error to allow junior Natalie Rios in from third. Sophomore Victoria Zatko then singled up the middle to plate Walker.
  • The Blue & Gold took the lead in the fifth when junior Kaylee Piven singled and drove in Walker.
  • The Hawks responded in the bottom half with three runs. An error and a two-run dinger led to the scores.
  • La Salle chipped the deficit to one when Walker singled to center for bring Rios in from third, however the comeback fell short.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • La Salle outhit the Hawks with eight base knocks.
  • Both Walker and classmate Maddy Little went 2-for-4.
  • Walker finished with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.
  • Rios walked twice and scored twice.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
  • Junior Sarah Dowalo (0-16) tossed a solid game with just two earned runs on five hits and two walks in six innings. She also fanned a pair.
UP NEXT:
La Salle finishes its season on Saturday and Sunday at George Mason.
