PHILADELPHIA - La Salle University Director of Athletics and Recreation
Brian Baptiste has announced that
Rob Irvine has stepped down as head men's soccer coach. Irvine has accepted a position with United States Soccer as Talent Identification Manager for the East Coast.
"We would like to thank Rob for his commitment to our student-athletes over the last five years," Baptiste said. "We wish him nothing but the best in his new position with U.S. Soccer."
Under Irvine's tenure, La Salle had ten Atlantic 10 year-end honorees and ten Philadelphia Soccer Six yearly award winners, along with numerous team and individual academic accolades. In 2016, his first year at the helm, the Explorers started 5-1 to match the best start in program history, posted a 10-win season and earned the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic 10 TournamentÂ
"This was a very difficult decision to leave La Salle," Irvine said. "Being the La Salle head men's soccer coach was such a meaningful experience and a responsibility I took very seriously. The daily interaction with the players is what I will miss most. We have a very special group of players and staff who have great competitive grit.  I look forward to supporting the program in the future."
A search for the new head men's soccer coach will begin immediately.
