La Salle Shuts Down Wagner in 1-0 Win

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle field hockey team (4-2) stayed unbeaten at home, shutting out Wagner (0-4) in a 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon to win their second-consecutive game.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • La Salle got off to a fast start, as Sofia Pla opened the scoring with her sixth goal of the season 13:31 into the game to give the Explorers a 1-0 lead.
  • In a tight defensive first half, La Salle held the edge in shots 4-3 to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
  • The Wagner offense gained some momentum early in the third quarter, attempting seven penalty corners in the first five minutes of the quarter.
  • La Salle keeper Ryan Curley was up to the task, making five saves in the frame to keep the Seahawks out of the net.
  • The Explorer defense stiffened up in the fourth quarter, allowing just one shot to preserve their second shutout of the season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Ryan Curley (4-2) made five saves to record her second-career shutout and fourth career win.
  • Sofia Pla now has six goals in six career games to begin her La Salle career.
  • The Explorers held the edge in shots, 12-11.
  • La Salle generated 12 corners, compared to just eight for Wagner.
