Men's Basketball Announces Additions to 2021-22 Roster

Team

Men's Basketball | September 3, 2021

PHILADELPHIA - La Salle University head men's basketball coach Ashley Howard has finalized the 2021-22 roster, it was announced on Friday. Graduate transfer Mamadou Doucoure (Bamako, Mali) joins the Explorers after spending four seasons at Rutgers, and Matt McFarlane (Philadelphia, Pa.) returns to his home city following a stint at Colby Community College in Kansas.

Doucoure, a 6-9 forward, played in 71 games over four seasons with the Scarlet Knights, including 29 starts as a freshman. That season, Doucoure registered a career-high 13 points and nine rebounds at Minnesota, and had eight points, six rebounds, and four blocked shots in a win over Bryant.

As a prep, Doucoure was a standout at Our Savior New American School in Centereach (N.Y.). He averaged 11 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocked shots as a senior, and was rated the No. 3 overall prospect in New York City by NYCHoops.net. Nationally, he was ranked 63rd by 247Sports and was a member of the Rivals Top 150. Coucoure was selected to play at the 2015 Jordan Classic International Game at Barclays Center, and earned a spot on the Most Outstanding Top 60 Game Performers at the Pangos All-East Camp.

Another addition to the frontcourt, McFarlane is a 6-10 forward who was a two-year starter at Colby Community College. As a freshman, he averaged 11.2 points, 6.4 rebounds,  and 1.8 blocks as Colby won its first Jayhawk Conference regular-season championship and ended the season with its first top-10 national ranking. This past year, he averaged 10.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in less than 27 minutes per game.

McFarlane played high school basketball at Samuel Fels in Northeast Philadelphia. He was a first-team All-Public School honoree in 2017.

Howard also announced two more additions to the roster, as Charles Ireland (Glenside, Pa.) and Brandon Dwyer (Newark, Del.) will join the team as walk-ons in 2021-22. Ireland played locally at La Salle College High School, while Dwyer comes to the Explorers from Sanford High School in Delaware.
