PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The La Salle field hockey team (2-2) rallied from a goal down to take a 2-1 lead in the fourth, but Drexel (1-3) tied the game late and scored the golden-goal in overtime to snap the Explorer win streak at two games.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Dragon offense generated 10 shots in the opening period, but Explorer keeper Ryan Curley made seven saves to keep the game scoreless after 15 minutes of play.
- Drexel opened the scoring midway through the second quarter, as Puk Thewessen scored on feeds from Isabel Jacobs and Amber Brouwer to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead that would hold until halftime.
- Senior Regan Dougherty knotted the score at 1-1 with her first goal of the season at 32:04.
- With 8:28 remaining, freshman Quinn Medico picked up her first career goal to give La Salle the lead, 2-1.
- However, the Dragons were able to find the equalizer with just seven seconds remaining as Hannah Nihill scored on a feed from Amber Brouwer to force overtime.
- Curley made two saves in overtime for the Explorers, but Jacobs found the ball at the top of the circle and blasted home the game-winner for Drexel for a finale score of 3-2.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Curley (16) made a career-best 16 saves, her second double-digit save performance in four starts this season.
- The goal for Medico marked the freshman's first career goal and points.
- The Dragons led in shots 30-15 and penalty corners, 7-6.
- Freshman Sofia Pla led the Explorers with four shots and three shots on goal
- Drexel goalkeeper Megan Hadfield (1-3) made seven saves for the Dragons.
- With Medico and Dougherty's goals, La Salle now has now gotten point contributions from nine players, as well as goals from five different scorers.
