La Salle Track and Field Opens Season at Penn Select

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The men's and women's track and field teams are set to open the indoor portion of their 2021-22 season on Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Penn Select, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.
 
Action is set to begin at 4 p.m. with seven running events, four jumping events and two throwing events on the schedule.
 
La Salle will be joined by Big 5 rivals Penn and Villanova as well as the squads from Brown, Cornell, FDU, Stony Brook and Wagner.
 
The Explorers return to the track following an abbreviated season last year due to the ongoing COVID pandemic. This is the first time La Salle has competed in a full indoor/outdoor season since the 2018-19 season.
 
The men's track and field roster returns 19 runners and welcomes four newcomers while the women's roster hosts 20 veterans and seven newcomers.
 
Dennis Manyeah was a shining star for the men's program last season making his way to the NCAA Championships for the high jump. He placed 16th in the country in the event out of the 24 finalists competing. He finished with a top height of 2.15 meters (7' 0.5"), just shy of his school record.
 
El Mancini returns for the women this season following an appearance in the NCAA Preliminary Championships last year. Mancini finished 31st/48 in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 35:13.95 in her NCAA Prelim debut. She earned her first career gold medal last year taking first place in the 10K at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
