Swimming & Diving Set for Senior Day Meet vs. Fordham

PHILADELPHIA – For the second-consecutive weekend, La Salle swimming & diving will be at Kirk Pool as they host A-10 rival Fordham for a dual on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 11 a.m.
 
The meet will be senior day for the Explorers, as the program honors their nine-member senior class of Phoebe Shaya, Samara Cheifetz, Kaelyn Dougherty, Brooks Hauge, Kaitlyn Smykowski, Zachary Wolbert, Steven Stasolla, and Sara Rizzetto. The meet will also be La Salle's Gold Rush dual, where the first 50 students will receive a free shirt.
 
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • La Salle's women's team battled in an exciting tri-meet last Saturday, beating Fairfield 209-90 while falling just short to reigning A-10 champion Richmond, 138-157.
  • Two Explorers picked up multiple individual wins on Saturday, led by Rizzetto's ninth and 10th wins of the campaign in the 200-yard free and the 200-yard back.
  • Sophomore Sam Boyes took the top spot in both the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly, earning her La Salle's Novacare Student-Athlete of the Week honors.
  • Anne Moser added her fourth win of the season in the 1000-yard free.
  • Shaya continued her standout season with another sweep of the diving events, her seventh and eighth wins of 2021-22.
  • The men, competing against just Fairfield, dropped a narrow 147-153 decision to the Stags.
  • The Explorers took the top spot in both relays, as Wolbert, Alex Kuriawa, Trenton Burr, and Zack Miller combined for a pair of wins.
  • Wolbert and Burr each added two individual wins for La Salle, as Wolbert paced the field in the 200-yard fly and 200-yard IM while Burr placed first in the 100-yard back and the 200-yard back.
  • Jason Rosales and Zack Miller picked up solo wins as well, winning the 100-yard breast and the 100-yard free respectively.
  • Sam Henninger notched the top spot in the three-meter dive with a score of 273.37.
 
SCOUTING THE RAMS:
  • The meeting with Fordham will be the second time this season La Salle and the Rams have shared the pool, as both competed during the Bucknell Invite from Nov. 19-21.
  • Fordham's women's team holds a perfect 4-0 record in duals, recording wins over Manhattan, Marist, Monmouth, and Georgetown.  
  • The men hold a dual mark of 2-2, with their most recent outing coming in a 199-94 loss to Georgetown.
  • Neither side competed in the 2021 A-10 championships, as the two programs opted out.
