BRONX, N.Y. – After a 19-day hiatus, the La Salle women's basketball team will take the court in New York in its first Atlantic 10 game of the season against the Fordham Rams on Sunday, Jan. 9. The game is set to air nationally on CBS Sports Network with a noon tip.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS
- The Explorers return to the court after a 19-day hiatus due to COVID protocols within various programs. La Salle last played on Dec. 21 at home against Villanova, dropping the contest 66-56 and recording its first Big 5 loss of the season.
- Gabby Crawford has led the Explorers in the last two contests. The junior is averaging 17.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. She is currently shooting 63.2% (12-of-19) from the field.
- Claire Jacobs and Kayla Spruill continue to pace the three-point effort for La Salle this season shooting 41.3% (26-of-63) and 42.3% (22-of-52), respectively.
- After a scoreless game at Sacred Heart, senior Molly Masciantonio scored in double-figures for just the second time this season in the contest against Villanova. The 5-10 guard shot 4-of-7 from the field and sunk 2-of-5 free throw attempts to earn 10 points in the game.
- Crawford (17.0), Spruill (14.8) and Claire Jacobs (11.9) are all averaging double-figures for the Explorers. Claire Jacobs has earned double-digits in the last five consecutive contests.
- As a group La Salle is shooting 36.5% from the field, 30.8% from the long range and 78.6% from the line.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
- The Rams enter the contest having won their last five consecutive games, dating back to Dec. 2. The squad most recently recorded a 63-36 victory at home against Farleigh Dickinson on Jan. 2.
- Anna DeWolfe powered Fordham in the contest against Farleigh Dickinson with her sixth-straight 20-point effort this season, scoring 23 points on 10-of-20 shooting. She added three steals, two assists, one block and one rebound over 31 minutes of play.
- Asiah Dingle and Madison Jonassen both ended the game in double-digits. Dingle recorded 14 points and three steals while Jonassen totaled 12 points, a pair of steals and five rebounds.
- DeWolfe, Dingle and Kaitlyn Downey are a trio to be reckoned with. The group has one A-10 Player of the Week award each so far this season. Combined they make up 64.9% of the team's scoring on a combined 42.4% shooting overall.
- DeWolfe currently leads the conference in scoring with 20.4 points per game on 43.7% overall shooting, 36.4% from the distance and 82.6% from the line. She ranks second on the team with 34 assists and 21 steals in 12 games. Nationally, she ranks eighth in minutes per game averaging 38.0 and 17th in points per game.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Explorers own a 33-16 advantage over Fordham in the all-time series with games dating back to 1983-84. Over the past seven years, the Rams have held the advantage winning eight-straight games.
- The two teams have not met since the 2019-20 season where Fordham came out on top with a 62-45 victory on its home court.
