Women's Soccer Earns Hard-Fought 1-0 Victory over Saint Joseph's

PHILADELPHIA - A late first-half goal from freshman Ricshya Walker proved to be the difference as a stout La Salle defense kept Saint Joseph's at bay all afternoon in a 1-0 victory at McCarthy Stadium. The win is the 300th in the history of the La Salle University women's soccer program.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Much of the first half was a back-and-forth possession battle with neither team gaining much traction.
  • St. Joe's had a chance in the 37th minute as Erica Behr headed a shot towards the lower-left corner of net.
  • La Salle goalkeeper Michela Auguadro was there to get a hand on it and push it wide for a corner kick, which was defended well by the Explorers.
  • In the 41st minute, a cross from sophomore Jillian Drumm hit the crossbar and bounced in front of the net. Walker was right there to nudge home her third goal of the season.
  • Moments later, SJU had a chance to tie it up by Jiselle Daniels hit the left post with her attempt from a tough angle.
  • From there, the La Salle defense took over, limiting the Hawks to just three shots over the final half to secure the team's fourth shutout win of the year.
UP NEXT
  • The Explorers return to action on Thursday, Oct. 20 at George Mason. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
