Late Surge Pushes Explorers Past Billikens, 2-0

PHILADELPHIA - A pair of fourth-quarter goals proved to be the difference as the La Salle field hockey team earned a 2-0 win over Saint Louis in Atlantic 10 action on Friday. Tatum Johnson and Peyton Tollaksen registered the goals for the Explorers, who improved to 8-9 overall and 3-3 in A-10 play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams fought through a defensive battle for much of the contest, with neither team finding the scoring column through 45 minutes.
  • La Salle had the better run of play over that period, tallying nine shots compared to zero for Saint Louis.
  • With just under12 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Explorers finally got on the board when Tatum Johnson redirected a ball from Peyton Tollaksen to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
  • Saint Louis got its offense going in the period, pushing forward for four shots including three on goal.
  • La Salle goalkeeper Ryan Curley was up to the challenge, however, denying the Billikens each time.
  • With under three minutes left, the Explorers scored an insurance goal as Tollaksen took a pass right in front from Paige Doyle and eased it over the line.
  • From there, La Salle's defense remained stout and secured the shutout win.
UP NEXT
  • The Explorers will be off for a week before returning to action on Friday, Oct. 28 at Saint Joseph's for their final A-10 match of the season.
