La Salle Falls to No. 11 Saint Joseph’s in Hard-Fought Battle

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The La Salle field hockey team held off Saint Joseph's in the first and third quarters, but two-goal efforts from the Hawks in each the second and fourth frames made the difference with the Explorers falling to St. Joe's 4-0.

La Salle's record falls to 8-10 overall and 3-4 in the Atlantic 10 while the Hawks improve to 13-5 and maintain a perfect 7-0 league mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Explorers held off the Hawks' offense through the first 15 minutes giving up just one corner opportunity resulting in a single shot in the third minute. La Salle saw its first chance offensively with just nine seconds left in the frame with an offensive corner, but couldn't convert for the goal.
  • Ryan Curley fended off the Hawks' second shot of the game in the 22nd minute, but an error in the circle set St. Joe's up for a penalty corner to take a 1-0 lead over the Explorers. The Hawks found the back of the cage once again to take a 2-0 lead into the second half.
  • The third frame was an even affair with each team firing off just one shot on goal. The Explorers' offensive momentum kicked in closing out the frame with back-to-back offensive corner attempts.
  • Peyton Tollaksen got a solid look in the fourth frame for La Salle blocked by the Hawks defense. Despite Curley's efforts in the cage St. Joe's added two more goals over the final 15 minutes to take the 4-0 victory over the Explorers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Tollaksen and Malena Balduzzi fired off the only shots for the Explorers with Balduzzi's being the only one to land on the cage.
  • Curley played all 60 minutes in the cage making three saves.
  • The game extends the Hawks streak in the series history to nine.
UP NEXT:
