Men's Rowing | October 23, 2022
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Taking part in the Head of the Charles, one of the largest regattas in the world, the La Salle University men's rowing team more than held its own against some of the top competition around on Sunday afternoon.
The men's varsity 4+ earned a silver medal by finishing second in the collegiate 4+ event, just behind Notre Dame. The group coxed by
Elizabeth Boyle led its race for much of the way before narrowly falling off the pace to finish second behind the Fighting Irish. The Explorers bettered the time of third-place San Diego by more than 16 seconds and also finished ahead of boats from Oklahoma City, Drexel, North Carolina, Michigan, and Vanderbilt.
In the first race of the day, the men's varsity 8+ was second in its race through the first time check and nearing the midway point, but was hung up by a clashing of oars with another boat. The opposing crew was penalized following the race due to its failure to yield, but the incident cost La Salle precious time in its race. The Explorers regrouped and did earn an automatic bid into next year's HOCR by finishing 14th.
La Salle returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Head of the Schuylkill. An alumni event following the race will be held on campus at the Compass Club. To register,
