Trio Of Explorers Named Empacher-IRCA All-Americans, Bevenour Recognized As Comeback Athlete Of The Year

PHILADELPHIA - Last week, the International Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA) released their end of season awards to recognize athletes at every level of collegiate coaching.

Sophomores Predrag Cvetkovic and Derek Cushman each earned themselves All-American Honorable Mention Honors, while senior Nick O'Neill was named an Empacher-IRCA Second Team All-American. Each of the three competed as a part of the Explorers' first Varsity-8 boat for the entirety of the spring season season barring injury. They each played a key roll in La Salle's second straight Kerr Cup and their 15th place finish at the IRCA National Championship.

While he bounced back and forth between the first and second Varsity-8 boats, senior captain Joel Bevenour was also honored by the IRCA as their Comeback Athlete of the Year. Bevenour suffered a seizure at a practice in September and still managed to start as a part of a Varsity boat at every Spring regatta including the Kerr Cup, where he and the first Varsity-8 boat won gold.

With O'Neill and Bevenour on the way out, their contributions to La Salle Men's Rowing will always be remembered.
