FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The La Salle women's basketball team hits the road once again to head north to face Sacred Heart on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. The contest will stream live on NEC Front Row.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle hits the road for its second of three consecutive away games to start the 2022-23 season. The Explorers will visit Sacred Heart on Thursday, Nov. 10 for a 7 p.m. tip off in Fairfield, Conn.
- This marks the first time under head coach Mountain MacGillivray's tenure that the Explorers have kick-started a season with three-straight road games.
- La Salle enters the contest three days after a 62-57 loss at Howard in the Explorers' season opener. The Explorers trailed by as many as 15 points in the second frame, but out-scored the Bison in the third and fourth quarters to bring the score within one twice in the final two minutes. Howard pulled ahead for the five-point victory.
- The Explorers are 2-1 under MacGillvray's direction in the game following a season-opening loss.
- Newcomer Charity Shears led the charge for the Explorers in game one. The fifth-year senior from Kentucky notched a team-high 14 points on 4-of-11 shooting including 3-of -9 from deep and 3-of-4 from the line.
- Amy Jacobs stepped back onto the court for the Explorers and began her senior campaign the right way. A force on both sides of the ball she recorded 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting including 2-of-5 from the three. She added a team-high five rebounds and snatched the ball twice.
- Gabby Crawford scored eight of her 10 points in the second-half including two made free throws in the fourth quarter to put La Salle within a single point of tying. The senior shined defensively pulling down five boards and blocking on shot.
- 11 of the Explorers' 14-person roster saw action in the first game. All five newcomers for La Salle - Shears, Fiona Connolly, Emma Egan, Gabriela Falcão and Mia Jacobs - all recorded their first minutes in the Blue & Gold.
- The Explorers saw some changes in their previously predicted starting five with Shears getting the nod over Claire Jacobs.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS:
- Sacred Heart enters the contest off a definitive 72-34 win over Hartford on Monday night. The Pioneers put together an impressive 20-0 run stretching into the third quarter to take a secure lead.
- Sajada Bonner scored in double-figured for the Pioneers recording 13 points while adding seven boards and two steals.
- Ny'Ceara Pryor also reached 10-plus with 12 points in addition to eight boards, seven assists and five swipes.
- The contest marked the third-straight season-opener the Pioneers have won. In the last two years, Sacred Heart is 1-1 in the game following the season-opener.
SERIES HISTORY:
- The Explorers lead the all-time series against the Pioneers 4-0.
- La Salle and Sacred Heart last met on neutral grounds on Dec. 18, 2021 where the Explorers recorded their largest margin of victory, 28, over the Pioneers in a 72-44 win. After trailing by three points at the end of the first quarter, the Explorers put together a 41-point effort through the next three frames.
- The Explorers have not visited the Pioneers in Connecticut since Nov. 17, 2006.
