RICHMOND, Va. – The La Salle men's basketball team dropped its contest with Richmond on Saturday evening, falling 77-63 inside Robins Center.
The Explorers dropped both contests to Richmond on the season, now standing at 7-15 on the year and 2-10 in conference play. The Spiders move to 17-9, 8-5 in conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams came out of the gates swinging, back-and-forth baskets made on both ends of the court. Clifton Moore continued his fiery conference campaign, scoring eight of the first 11 points for the Explorers.
- Both teams shot above 50% after eight minutes of play, Richmond holding a 17-16 lead over La Salle early on.
- La Salle held the Spiders on a scoring drought lasting 3:57, Richmond missing eight consecutive shots before a Jacob Gilyard jumper broke the run with the Explorers leading 26-23.
- The Spiders outscored the Explorers 13-7 the rest of the half, holding a 36-33 lead heading into the locker room.
- Moore again paced the Explorers to start the second half, scoring four of the first six points for La Salle.
- A three-plus minute scoring drought from either team saw a stalemate between the two, Jack Clark finally ending the dry spell with a corner three to cut the Richmond lead to two. Trading baskets on both sides, a quick 6-0 burst from Richmond gave the Spiders a 52-44 lead with just under 12 minutes to play.
- Five-straight points from Clark cut the deficit back to one possession, tallying his 17th point after making two free throws.
- A series of trips to the line for the Spiders extended their advantage all the way to 12, taking a 63-51 lead with under eight to play.
- Despite multiple attempts to bring the score under double digits, the disparity in fouls gave the Spiders ample opportunity at the line to hold their advantage. Richmond would close the contest out with a 77-63 win inside the Robins Center.
GAME NOTES
- Clark finished with a game-high 19 points, tallying five rebounds and a career-high four steals.
- Moore tallied his 12th game in a row in double-figures, eclipsing the mark in the first half. Moore has also registered a block in each game this season, his 24th straight dating back to last season.
- As a team, the Explorers shot 23-54 (42.6%) from the field, 8-23 (34.8%) from deep. The Spiders finished 26-55 (47.3%) from the floor, knocking down 18 of their 22 free throw attempts for an 81.8% clip. Richmond won the rebounding battle 37-28.
- Tyler Burton led the Spiders with 15 points and 10 rebounds, Grant Golden adding 15 points of his own with eight boards.
