La Salle Returns to the Pool to Start Conference Play

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The La Salle women's water polo team returns to the pool following a three-week break to take on Wager and Iona on Saturday, Feb. 26.
 
The Explorers will face the Seahawks first in their first conference game of the season at 11:45 a.m. before facing the Gaels later that evening at 7:15 p.m.
 
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • La Salle enters the contest at 3-6 overall so far this season having lost four of its last five contests.
  • The Explorers are averaging 10.4 goals per game and currently hold a 39.8% shot percentage. La Salle is 29-9 in sprints.
  • The goalkeeping unit is averaging 10.6 saves per game while the defense averages 8.9 swipes per game.
  • Kalista Hyham leads the Explorers offense with 33 points from 25 goals and eight assists.
  • Madison Martinez is the leading helping hand with a team-high 14 assists in nine games.
  • Karle Linden is currently leading the team in steals with 15 and blocks with five.
  • Emma Gurasich has recorded 240 minutes in the net making 78 saves for a 54.5 save percentage. She has added 13 assists and nine steals in nine games.
SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS:
  • Wager enters the contest at 10-2 overall having won its last eight consecutive contests including a 4-0 weekend at the Bruno Classic at the beginning of the month.
  • The Seahawks are averaging 16.7 goals per game and shooting at 52.1%. They are 35-10 in sprints.
  • The goalkeeping unit is averaging 8.0 saves per game while the defense is averaging 10.8 steals.
  • Malia Josephson leads the offensive effort for Wagner with 48 points on 20 goals and 28 assists. She is also the team's leading blocker with nine this season.
  • Abby Simshauser serves as the leading goal scorer for the Seahawks with 33 goals in 12 games.
  • Eight total Seahawks have recorded double-digit goals on the season already.
  • Skye Nankervis leads the defensive effort with a team-high 25 steals.
  • Kristina Bell has recorded over 352 minutes in the net this season. She has made 85 saves and is currently sitting at a 50.0 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE GAELS:
  • Iona enters the weekend at 4-4 on the season having won three of its last four contests dating back to Jan. 29.
  • The Gaels are averaging 12.1 goals per game and shooting 37%. They are 16-16 in sprints.
  • Mary Jane Bailey has served as the only goalkeeper in all eight games for Iona. She has totaled 69 saves and has a 40.6 save percentage. Bailey has added two assists and 11 steals this season.
  • The Gaels' defense is averaging 8.4 steals per game and 2.4 blocks.
  • Maeve Ellen Wydan leads the team on offense with 32 points on 19 goals and 13 assists.
  • Jordan Van Reeken is the team's leading goal scorer with 22 goals in eight games. She and Bailey lead the team in steals with 11 apiece.
