Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The La Salle women's water polo team dropped the first of its five-game series this weekend against Cal Baptist on Friday to start the Bruno Classic. The difference came down to just two goals, 13-11. The Explorers are now 2-3 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- La Salle held the advantage after the first period of play with Emma Gurasich recording a shutout in the quarter and the Explorers securing two goals.
- The second period was the difference maker with Cal Baptist out-scoring the Explorers by double, 6-3, to take a single-point advantage into the third period, 6-5.
- The teams were knotted in the third each scoring four goals allowing Cal Baptist to maintain its single-point lead.
- The Lancers extended their lead in the fourth out-scoring the Explorers 3-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Kalista Hyham paced the Explorers on offense once again with a team-high three goals. She ripped a total of five shots at the net. The reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the week also added one assist and two steals in the game.
- Tatum Lomax, Madelyn Koerper and Sarah Defusco added two goals apiece. Lomax stole the ball two times while Defusco led the team with four assists.
- Karle Linden stepped up defensively with a team-high four steals.
- Madison Martinez and Francesca Co' recorded one goal and two blocks each.
- Gurasich made four saves while adding two assists and two steals.
- La Salle won the sprint in the first three periods with the Lancers winning the race in the fourth.

- La Salle returns to the pool at 10:30 tomorrow morning to take on tournament-host Brown followed by Saint Francis (Pa.) at 5:30 p.m.
