Shaya Advances to Championship Final in Day One of NCAA Zone A Diving Championships

ANNAPOLIS, MD - In the first day of the 2022 NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, La Salle swimming and diving senior Phoebe Shaya advanced to the championship final in one-meter for the first time in her career.

The reigning Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Diver, Shaya placed 10th in a field of 79 divers in the prelims with a score of 264.25, comfortably finishing inside the top-18 to advance to the finals. Shaya would go on to finish in 18th with a cumulative score of 497.05 through 12 dives. Monday's performance marked a career-best finish in Zone A for Shaya, who placed 44th in her first appearance in 2020. Virginia Tech's Teagan Moravek took the top spot in the women's final, ending at 610.70.

On the men's side, Sam Henninger made his second appearance in the Zone A championships, competing in the three-meter. The junior ended in 38th, finishing with a final tally 245.65 in the prelims. Jonathon Suckow from Columbia University ended in first for the men with a score of 852.05 through 12 dives. 

Shaya and Henninger, who both qualified for the three-meter and one-meter, will be joined by senior Steven Stasolla on Tuesday, March 8 for day two of the NCAA Zone A Championships. Shaya will take the board for the women's three-meter, while Stasolla and Henninger will compete in the one-meter.
