PITTSBURGH, PA – After an even first half, Duquesne used a big third quarter to pull away from La Salle lacrosse 18-9 on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Duquesne started the game with the first two goals, as Sam King and Tina St. Clair found the back of the net to give the Dukes a 2-0 lead at the 8:57 mark in the first.
- The Explorer offense answered, getting goals from Lola Quigley and Maddie Dachowski to level the score at 2-2.
- After St. Clair added her second goal at the end of the first, La Salle outscored the Dukes 3-2 in the second to bring the halftime score to 5-5.
- Maddie Henderson opened the frame with her 19th goal of the season before added a second to close the quarter while Emily Johnston added her 32nd of the campaign.
- The Duke offense heated up to start the second half, scoring the first eight goals of the third quarter in a game-sealing run to take a 13-5 lead.
- Duquesne outshot the Explorers 16-6 in the quarter, outscoring them 9-3 in total.
- The Dukes added four more goals in the fourth, while Johnston added her third for La Salle to bring the final score to 18-9.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Dukes led the game in shots (39-25), shots on goal (33-18), ground balls (31-23) and caused turnovers (19-13). La Salle held the edge in draw controls, 16-14.
- Johnston finished with three goals for the second-straight game, also added two caused-turnovers, two draw controls and three ground balls.
- Henderson added two goals, a season-high seven draw controls, five caused turnovers, and six ground balls.
- Dachowski also tallied two goals along with a pair of ground balls, while Kiki Venza recorded three points with a goal and two assists.
- In goal, Kelli McGraorty played the full game for the first time in her career, notching 15 saves.
