Women's Soccer | August 24, 2022

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University women's soccer team (2-0) looks to keep its season-opening hot streak going with a pair of home matches at McCarthy Stadium this week.

The Explorers will welcome Saint Francis U. (0-2) for its home opener on Thursday, Aug. 25, before hosting James Madison (1-0-1) on Sunday, Aug. 28. Both games will kickoff at 6:00 p.m. and air live on ESPN+.

Friday's game will be a welcome to campus for new students, in conjunction with Explorientation weekend. A tailgate for students will be held outside McCarthy Stadium, and all Explorientation leaders will be recognized at halftime. On Sunday, all fans in attendance will receive a free La Salle-branded stadium cup courtesy of La Salle Athletics. A post-game autograph session with select members of the team will take place following the game.

ABOUT THE EXPLORERS

  • Junior Kelli McGroarty has also had a nice start to her 2022 campaign, scoring a goal and adding an assist through the first weekend.
  • Michela Auguardo has played all 180 minutes in goal, making seven saves while posting the fourth shutout of her career against Seton Hall.
  • La Salle will be looking for its first 3-0 start to the season since 2018. The Explorers have not started a year 4-0 since 2009.
ABOUT THE RED FLASH
  • SFU opened the year with losses to regional opponents Bucknell and Robert Morris this past weekend, falling to the Bison by a score of 4-1 and to the Colonials, 2-1.
  • The contest is a rematch of last season's contest in Loretto, Pa., which saw the Explorers come away with a 1-0 win.
  • Freshman Raine Korpics and sophomore Lauren Pyle each found the back of the net for Saint Francis.
ABOUT THE DUKES
  • James Madison, who was picked to finish second in the Sun Belt in 2022, posted a win and a tie through the first weekend of the season, tying A-10 member VCU, 0-0, before routing Morehead State, 4-0.
  • In the matchup with the Rams, JMU had a slight edge in shots, 13-12, and had a resounding 11-4 advantage in corner kicks.
