PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's soccer season kicks off Friday, August 26
th at McCarthy Stadium against Stonehill College (0-0) at 6 p.m. streaming on ESPN+.
Scouting the Explorers:
- Head coach Taylor Thames, entering his second season, recorded a 6-10 record in 2021 highlighted by a strong finish to the season against both Columbia and George Mason.
- Thames welcomes 14 new members to the team and retains some key players from seasons past.
- Nigel Buckley returns to the Explorers as a fifth-year for the 2022 season. He served as the leading scorer last season totaling seven goals across 16 games. Buckley tallied his first career hat-trick against Columbia in a 4-1 victory.
- Omari Cotterell enters his fifth year with the Blue & Gold. He comes off a season appearing in 16 games and starting in 13. Cotterell scored a career high two goals against Davidson.
- Among the 14 newcomers is Drew Blackwell transferring from the University of New Hampshire. Blackwell comes to La Salle as a member of the America East Coast champion team, and a two-time America East Conference regular season champion.
- The Explorers welcome three new members to the coaching staff: Meir Lewin and Elton Jazexhiu as assistant coaches, and Kevin Brenner as a volunteer assistant.
Scouting the Skyhawks
- Head coach of Stonehill, Jim Reddish, enters his 12th season with the Skyhawks and comes off a 6-10-1 2021 season.
- Sophomore, Iago Vieira, comes into the 2022 off a strong freshman year. He led the Skyhawks with nine goals and 18 points.
- Jacob Woznicki, a junior, was second on the team in points and appeared in all 17 games.
