Women’s Soccer Earns Home Opener Victory Over Saint Francis (Pa.)

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's soccer team came home to McCarthy Stadium to shutout the Saint Francis Red Flash 3-0. La Salle is now 3-0 on the season and Saint Francis falls to 0-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The scoring for the Explorers started early, as Kelli McGroarty controlled the ball in the corner of the pitch, passing it into the center of the box to Haley Gschrey who found the back of the net in the seventh minute of the match to give the Explorers the early lead that they wouldn't relinquish.
  • After a long scoring drought on both sides, Courtney Butlion saw her chance at a goal. The initial shot was blocked, but Explorers Caitlin Donovan and Camaren Cox rallied getting the ball to the feet of Butlion once again for the goal to put La Salle up 2-0 in the 74th minute.
  • In the 83rd minute, Madison McCready located Leah Giles on the far right of the pitch, who launched the ball into the box, teaming up with McGroarty to put the Blue & Gold up 3-0.
