KENSINGTON, Conn. - Freshman
Kevin Lydon made a collegiate debut that he will never forget on Saturday, setting a new school record for low round, a new course record at Shuttle Meadow Country Club, and leading the La Salle men's golf team to a new team scoring record on the opening day of the Ryan T. Lee Memorial.
Lydon, a Doylestown, Pa. native, recorded a 10-under par 61 which included 11 birdies, breaking the previous school record of PJ Acierno who shot 65 at the Rutgers Invitational in 2015. The Explorers fired a seven-under par 277, which broke the prior school record of 281 (Elon, 2018) by four strokes, and stand in a tie for second place heading into the final round on Sunday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lydon came out on fire in his first collegiate appearance, birdieing his first three holes and making the turn at five-under par 32.
- After a bogey on the 12th, Lydon carded a par on the 13th before finishing with a birdie frenzy.
- The freshman birdied each of his final five holes to finish atop the individual leaderboard.
