Brown's Summit, NC & Lewisburg, PA - The La Salle University men's and women's golf teams each wrapped up tournament play on Sunday, with the men competing in the Bryan National Collegiate in North Carolina and the women taking part in the Bucknell Invitational in Pennsylvania.
Women's Golf at Bucknell Invitational
The Bucknell Invitational marked the season opener for the women's team and featured three Explorers making their La Salle debuts.
Sophomore Samantha Song led the way for the Blue & Gold, finishing in a tie for 55th place with a three-round total of 242 (+32). Her second-round score of 76 (+6) stood as the team's lowest of the tournament.
Freshmen Julia Schaefer and Sarah Doherty completed their first collegiate tournaments, placing T-84th and 106th, respectively. Senior Hannah Gammons, a transfer who joined the program last semester, made her La Salle debut as well, finishing T-103rd. Senior Nina Okenkova rounded out the lineup, carding a 253 (+43) to place T-79th.
Men's Golf at Bryan National Collegiate
The men's team tied for 10th place alongside Boston College, winners of the Red Bandanna Invitational just one week prior, in a competitive 14-team field.
Sophomore Payton Hawke paced the Explorers with a strong showing, earning a top-15 individual finish. Hawke closed out his weekend with a 71 (-1) on Sunday to secure a 219 (+3) overall.
Senior Armand Loscalzo impressed in his season debut, tying for 29th after rounds of 73 (+1) and 74 (+2) on Sunday. Graduate student Jackson Debusschere finished T-36th with a 225 (+9), followed by senior Ben Battye in T-49th with a 228 (+12). Freshmen Colin Ferrick and Kyle Virsik rounded out the lineup, finishing T-63rd (231, +15) and T-67th (232, +16), respectively.
Up Next
Both teams will enjoy a brief break before returning to action later this month. The men will compete next at the Temple Invitational, hosted at Aronimink Golf Club, beginning September 22. The women will return to the course for the Autumn Harvest Invitational at Architects Golf Club, beginning September 29.
