Box Score PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The La Salle women's soccer team was the first to strike on Thursday night in Piscataway, New Jersey, but Rutgers claimed victory scoring three of its own to defeat the Explorers 3-1.
The Explorers fall to 5-2 on the season while the Scarlet Knights improve to a perfect 7-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ricshya Walker came close to a breakaway in the box when a foul on the Rutgers defense awarded a penalty kick to the Explores in the eighth minute. Alyssa Gargiulo stepped up for the kick sending the ball to the left of the net to give La Salle an early 1-0 lead over Rutgers.
- Eight minutes passed before the Scarlet Knights found the equalizer followed by another goal to take the lead in the 18th minute.
- Rutgers saw its chance to extend its lead by two before the end of the first half sending the ball between two La Salle defenders right to the top center of the net where Michela Auguadro made the impressive jump up to tip it over the net and out of play.
- A one-on-one with Auguadro on the left post made its way into the net for a goal in the 47th minute to secure Rutgers' two-point victory over the Explorers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Rutgers maintained possession the majority of the contest ripping off 24 shots and 11 on goal while holding La Salle to just six shots and two on goal.
- The Scarlet Knights held the advantage in corner kicks 6-3.
- Auguadro played the entire 90 minutes in the cage making eight saves.
- Emily Banashefski led the Explorers' in shots with two.
- Along with Gargiulo, Jillian Drumm was the only other Explorer to place a shot on the net.
- The teams were even in fouls with 13 apiece.
