Explorers Down Hartford in Home Battle

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The La Salle women's basketball team pulled ahead by 20 in the first half before putting together a scoring frenzy in the second half to defeat Hartford by 47, 77-30, on Monday afternoon.
 
The victory improves La Salle's overall record to 9-7 while the Hawks fall to 0-15 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • La Salle jumped out to an early starting taking a 7-0 run into the media highlighted by three-made free throws from Amy Jacobs to pull ahead by nine, 13-4, with just under five minutes left in the frame. The Explorers held the Hawks scoreless with a 10-0 run until the final seconds where Hartford converted the jumper to bring the deficit down to 17, 23-6, to end the frame.
  • The offense slowed for the Explorers in the second quarter with Hartford holding the 5-2 edge through the media with neither team seeing a single point through the two minutes before the break. La Salle picked it up with a 9-3 advantage through the rest of the frame to take a 20-point lead into half, 34-14.
  • The Explorers put together their biggest frame of the game in the third knocking down 10-of-19 shots from the field including a 4-of-10 effort from the 3-point range and a 4-of-5 performance from the charity stripe to pull ahead by 36, 62-26, entering the last 10 minutes of the game.
  • La Salle was led by Jaye Haynes in the final frame with two big three balls to give the team six of its 15 points while the Explorers efforts on the defensive end of the ball held the Hawks to just four points.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • La Salle was led by Claire Jacobs with 13 points off a 5-of-11 performance from the field and a 3-of-4 effort from the charity stripe.
  • Haynes nearly hit a second double-digit game with nine points shooting 3-of-6 from the field including a perfect 100% (2-of-2) from the long range and 1-of-2 from the foul line.
  • The Explorers entire 13-person active roster saw action in the game with 12 members recording points in the contest.
  • Julie Jekot led the defensive efforts at the boards with a career-high 10 rebounds.
GAME NOTES:
  • Claire Jacobs has now recorded 11 games in double-digits including seven straight. Jacobs also set a new season-high in boards with eight, just one shy from her career-high of nine.
  • Jekot becomes just the third Explorer this season to reach double-digit rebounding. The sophomore doubled her career-high previously set at five.
  • The Explorers 47-point victory marks its largest this season while the 30 points marks the least it has allowed from an opponent in a game.
  • La Salle's 60 rebounds marks a season-high and sits just one rebound away from tying the all-time single game rebound program record previously set by MacGillivray's 2018-19 squad versus Howard at Tom Gola Area on Nov. 6, 2018/

  • The Explorers hit the road this Thursday, Jan. 5 to face Davidson in its second conference matchup of the season and first on the road. Tip off is set for 11 a.m.
