Jacobs Sisters Combine for 38 Points in Explorers’ Victory Over St. Bonaventure

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The duo of Claire Jacobs and Mia Jacobs combined for 38 points in the Explorers' 65-52 win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday afternoon at home in Tom Gola Arena at TruMark Financial Center.

La Salle improves to 14-8 overall and 5-2 in Atlantic 10 play while the Bonnies fall to 4-20 overall and 1-8 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Early shooting for the Bonnies put them ahead of the Explorers two, 7-5, at the 5:31 mark. La Salle started on an 8-0 run to pull ahead by six, 13-7. La Salle continued to hold a 6-4 advantage through the remainder of the frame to take an eight-point lead into the second quarter, 19-11.
  • Claire Jacobs converted a three coming out of the media to put the Explorers up by 13 points, their biggest lead yet, with 3:26 remaining until the half. An 8-0 spurt comprised of six points from the line for St. Bonaventure brought the deficit down to five with 22 seconds remaining. Mia Jacobs hit the putback with two seconds left to give La Salle a seven-point edge at the end of the half, 30-23.
  • The Explorers broke up the scoring again in the third quarter shooting 4-of-9 from the three-point range to create a 10-point gap, 49-39, heading into the final 10 minutes of the game.
  • An 11-0 run for the Explorer to start the final frame gave them their largest lead of the game, 60-42, with 6:44 left to play. Back-to-back plays for the Bonnies brought it down to 13 with La Salle building it back up to 16 off a Claire Jacobs free throw and Gabriela Falcao jumper. A final bucket for the Bonnies cut the deficit back down to 13 with the Explorers coming out on top 65-52.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Claire Jacobs led the day with 21 points off 8-of-12 shooting including a 4-of-7 performance from the field and 1-of-2 from the line.
  • Mia Jacobs added 17 points shooting 4-of-11 from the field, 3-of-5 from deep and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. Jacobs also led the game in steals with three.
  • Charity Shears also finished the game in double-figures shooting 2-of-7 from the field, 2-of-5 from the long range and 4-of-4 from the foul line for 10 points.
  • Kayla Spruill led the battle at the boards pulling down nine rebounds including five offensive rebounds.
  • Molly Masciantonio dished out four assists while committing just one turnover.
GAME NOTES:
  • The Explorers are now 19-17 in the all-time series against St. Bonaventure and 12-4 when hosting the Bonnies.
  • La Salle breaks its one-game skid and now holds a single-game win streak in the series.
  • The win marks the Explorers fifth consecutive of the season. This marks the first time La Salle has won five straight since the 2019-20 season. It is also the first time that the Explorers have recorded five consecutive A-10 victories since 2016-17.
  • The Explorers are now 11-0 when leading at the half having yet to concede a game when holding the advantage after the first 20 minutes.
  • Claire Jacobs has now hit her 17th game this season in double-digits including the last four straight. The contest marks her fourth 20-point game of the season.
  • This is now the 13th time at least three Explorers have reached 10-points in a game this season. This is the sixth conference contest where at least three Explorers have hit 10-plus.
