Explorers To Go Up Against George Washington At Home

La Salle looks to end five-game losing skid

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men's basketball team goes for its third Atlantic 10 win of the season while also looking to snap a five-game losing streak in conference play on Wednesday when it hosts George Washington at Tom Gola Arena at TruMark Financial Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
 
The game will be televised on ESPN+, with Kale Beers and Bron Holland delivering the play-by-play and color commentary. Explorers fans can also listen to the broadcast through GoExplorers.com/watch. In addition, Explorers fans can follow the team on Twitter @LaSalle_MBB and Instagram @lasallembb.
 
The game will also honor all of La Salle's women's varsity athletic teams as a part of National Girls & Women in Sports Day. Every team will be recognized throughout the game.
 
There will also be a pre-game reception at the Hideaway at Blue and Gold Commons. The Hideaway will open two hours prior to tip-off to all fans.

NEWS & NOTES
  • The Explorers will go up against the Colonials for the 44th time in program history.
  • The Explorers are coming off a heartbreaking 72-70 loss to Rhode Island last Saturday. In that game, the Explorers led by 14 with 10:44 left before the Rams came back to win the game and extend the Explorers' losing streak. The Explorers' last win was against UMass (78-77) on Jan. 11.
  • The Explorers have three players averaging close to double figures in Khalil Brantley, Josh Nickelberry, and Fousseyni Drame. The threesome has combined for 33.8 points per game, with Brantley scoring 14.2 per game, Nickelberry chipping in 10.1 per contest, and Drame adding 9.5 per game.
  • The Explorers are led by head coach Fran Dunphy, the all-time winningest coach in Philadelphia Big 5 history. A 1970 La Salle graduate, Dunphy sports a 588-338 career record and a 331-135 mark in conference games.
COMING OFF THE BENCH
  • The Explorers have one of the top benches in the country, as they are ranked 70th in the NCAA in bench points per game at 24.19 points per game.
  • The Explorers have seen their bench score over 30 points in a game five times this season. 
SERIES HISTORY
  • The matchup between La Salle and George Washington dates back to 1951, with George Washington leading the series at 24-19.
  • The Explorers have split the last 10 meetings with the Colonials since 2013.
  • The Explorers' last win against George Washington was on Feb. 22, 2020, when they posted a 72-62 victory down in Washington D.C.
  • The Explorers are 12-8 overall against George Washington when playing at home and 7-3 in their last 10 home games against the Colonials.
SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON
  • The Colonials enter the game at 11-10 and 5-3 in A-10 play after losing to Fordham, 85-70, at Fordham.
  • The Colonials have beaten Loyola Chicago (97-87), UMass (81-73), George Mason (78-75), Dayton (76-69), and Saint Joseph's (92-91 in overtime) in conference play.
  • Besides the Fordham loss, GW's other losses in A-10 play have come at the hands of Richmond (73-63) and Saint Louis (81-74).
  • The Colonials have three players averaging double figures in James Bishop, Brendan Adams, and Maximus Edwards. Bishop leads the A-10 with 21.6 points per game, while Adams ranks fifth in the conference with 17.5 points per game. Edwards has chipped in 10.7 points per game.
  • George Washington is led by Chris Caputo, who is in his first season as head coach for the Colonials. Caputo previously was the associate head coach at the University of Miami, where he helped the team reach the NCAA Tournament five times and make a run to the Elite Eight last season.
